In addition to ongoing routine surveillance, on a monthly basis the infection prevention and control team review two cases of healthcare associated infections, one case of C.diff and one case of a gram negative blood stream infection (each case of MRSA blood stream infection is reviewed as required). This exercise is intended to:
- Engage and involve health and social care providers systemwide (across the patient pathway) who are affected by cases of healthcare associated infections. This may include care settings, out of hours services, NHS 111, general practice, SWAST, community providers, acute providers and out of county providers.
- Provide supportive recommendations to providers to help them meet CQC requirements and improve service user outcomes and experience.
- Identify common themes to develop regional targeted interventions to reduce rates of healthcare associated infections.
- Contribute to local and national surveillance of healthcare associated infections.
Learning is reported anonymously and shared at local forums; monthly slides are available on request: ciosicb.ipc@nhs.net for providers to share locally. Feedback is given directly to providers and individualised support offered as required.
We welcome engagement and thank you for your support.
