Key successes:

  • Expertise, input and professional challenge as a result of attending senior meetings of the local Integrated Care System (ICS)
  • Key influencing role on committees reshaping local healthcare
  • Facilitative and leading role in supporting local Primary Care Networks (PCNs)
  • Founder member of the GP Collaborative Board
  • Structured negotiations process to secure a better deal for local general practice
  • Leading and supporting engagement in collective action work with general practice
  • Chair of South West Regional Association of LMCs
  • Escalating and resolving workload shift through structured reporting to the LMC
  • Contested elections to represent GPs as a member of the LMC in 2025, for the first time in more than a decade
  • Core membership of the System Interface Group and co-author of the One Cornwall document
  • Provision of Practice support to a number of local GP practices and individual GPs/Practice Managers around issues such as workforce, finances, mergers and CQC inspections
  • Provision of uncapped pastoral support
  • Enhanced communications – including support for GP practice mergers, branch closures, CQC and commissioner investigations, collective action bulletins and social media channels
  • Hosted training online, to ensure continuity of educational support for staff teams and a greater range of topics covered
  • Further skills training for LMC Committee members, to develop their support for GP practices – including media training and negotiations training
  • Development of support materials and provision of support service for those who become involved in inquests
  • Support through provision of Freedom to Speak Up Guardian function

Future plans

  • Play a key role in the continually developing local 'healthscape', especially supporting general practice through the planned NHS England/Integrated Care Board reorganisation
  • Continue to develop core services
  • Ensure that the Cornish voice is heard in national negotiation of a new contract during this Parliament
  • Closer engagement with sessional and locum GPs
