SUMMARY:Online singing and wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Join the South West Faculties' singing and wellbeing course. We will be exploring breath control\, vocal technique\, vocal warmups\, body percussion and\, of course\, sing some songs together and learn to sing in harmony. This course is open to all and everybody is welcome\, no matter your experience with music or singing. Also\, believe it or not\, there are some advantages of running these sessions on Zoom – as well as being in the comfort of your own home\, it enables you to really listen in to your own voice and focus on your sound rather than getting lost amongst the group. It would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible.

SUMMARY:6 week yoga course
DESCRIPTION:It is always important for us to take the time to look after ourselves physically and mentally\, but it is even more paramount at times like these. Yoga is a simple practice where we focus on physical and mental stillness to reduce stress and increase flexibility and should help you unwind. Join us and allow our experienced Yoga teacher\, Roessa Marks to guide you through a yoga class designed specifically with GPs in mind. There will be options to suit both absolute beginners and those who have been practicing longer. The class will start with a brief introduction to yoga with an emphasis on benefits to health and wellbeing. Message from Roessa: “I understand the pace we live our lives and how we often crave a sense of tranquillity\, silence and stillness that we only seem to enjoy when on holiday\, on a beach or on top of a mountain. When one has that feeling of being overwhelmed and exhausted; when you simply can't see the wood for the trees - I have discovered that yoga can bring back a stillness and peace\, allowing clarity and positivity to re-emerge.” The class with be a multi-level 60 minute class - all levels are welcome! Requirements and equipment If you have a mat that is perfect for the class\, if not\, a towel that's large enough for you to lie down on is a good alternative. If you have any injuries or pregnancies please take these into account when you practice. By taking part in the class you are acknowledging that all exercise involves a risk of personal injury\, including a small risk of serious injury or death\, and agree to take responsibility for your health and well-being in relation to our yoga classes. SUMMARY:The “Lost” Update – Joined Up Health in Primary Care
DESCRIPTION:“two days to focus on this vitally important stuff that is so often missed out”\nfor GPs\, and other primary care professionals managing patients with complex and chronic health problems. \nBy approaching everything through an up-to-date understanding of the links between human cognition\, emotion and physiology this course can meet many learning needs: \n\nHelp with complex patients and chronic disease\, including ways to guide patients to make positive change\, and how to avoid medicalising their difficulties\, with particular focus on depression and diabetes.\nGetting beyond ideas like resilience and wellbeing to understand clearly what people - including professionals - need to thrive.\nHow things like exercise and social prescribing and even the placebo response link to our core expertise in biological sciences.\nAvoiding dysfunctional and time wasting consultations\, finding the right words to make consultations more enjoyable and productive\nNo-nonsense summaries of trendy yet important subject such as the sleep\, the micro-biome\, and chronic inflammation\nA chance to get beyond the low-carb vs vegan “diet wars” to appreciate the dietary approaches that we can confidently expect to support health.\n\nYour Course Tutor: Dr Andrew Morrice BSc MBBS MD DipHGP \nAndrew has 20 years experience as a full-time GP\, 35 years interest in diet and health\, 17 years experience using the Human Givens approach\, and 15 years teaching Whole Person Care at Bristol University Medical School. His courses are led with his particular brand of enthusiasm and good humour. \nWho is this for? \nDevised primarily for GPs (at all stages of experience) it will also suit many nurse practitioners\, particularly those dealing with chronic disease\, senior community nurses\, physiotherapists and primary care team leaders. \nAmongst the many things you may learn are:\n\nWays of cutting through the complexity of modern health care to focus on the things that will make the biggest difference across the board\, genuinely empowering paients and avoiding medicalizing their difficulties.\nSimple rules and learnable techniques on how to use language to best effect\, including how to put across key messages without raising patient’s resistance to them.\nHow to spot and understand trauma\, one of the most common drivers of ill-health – particularly in functional disorders.\nA basic toolkit to ensure conversations\, meetings and consultations work well\nHow to understand “exercise” from a whole new perspective\, clarifying quite how helpful it can be\, and why people find it hard to engage in “exercise”.\nHow thinking\, feeling\, emotion and physiology are linked\,  understand the three main physiological emotional responses and their relevance to what we do all day\, every day.\nHow an unusual feature of our biology means that emotional arousal can always be managedand how to teach people to calm down\, within normal consultations.\nWhy CBT works\, despite being based on an out-of-date theory of brain function\,  why sometimes patients find it hard work\, and where Mindfulness fits in.\nWhy it is so hard to think rationally about diet and health\, along with what we might conclude if we were to achieve rational thought on food: The dietary patterns proven\, or highly likely\, to either prevent or reverse the majority of chronic diseases.\nHow to spot the basic parameters that can distinguish helpful from unhelpful nutritionresearch\, and how to spot nonsensical dietary concepts.\nThe basic principles to demystify the whole “microbiome thing” and what this may mean for our practice in the future\nA guide to the trendy but potentially mystifying topic of 'chronic inflammation'. \nA whole new way of seeing obesity and diabetes\, and chronic disease management generally.\nNew insights into depression\, and new (and more satisfying) ways to respond to and help depressed patients\, including an understanding of the role of inflammation in depression.  And why this needn’t be about prescribing drugs.\nAnd more … !\n\n...You will need to bring only an open mind and relaxed attitude.
