The two-day course will offer GPs the opportunity to develop skills that cultivate a sense of wellbeing\, drawing upon the neurobiology of resilience and applying theory through experiential learning. \nNever before has there been such urgent need for the restorative effects that nature has to offer\, to be placed at the heart of recovery for frontline staff. This course will provide individuals with the space to reflect\, learn and connect. To restore yourself as you take valuable time to be with nature. The workshops and activities are delivered mostly outdoors\, and each offers the individual the opportunity to develop new ways of thinking and being for a sustainable future. \nThe venue provides a beautiful space for quiet retreat\, away from the noise of an increasingly tech dependent world and into the wilderness of Dartmoor National Park. Tailored to GPs\, the programme will include: \n\nPractising simple techniques based on applied neurobiology\, mindfulness and traditional sources which can be used in everyday work\nLearning about resilience from the woodland ecosystem and practical tools for our own wellbeing and our teams\nConservation work and physical activities together to de-stress\, relax into the land and shift perspective\nAn evening campfire circle for sharing\, mutual support and insights on work stresses\nProcesses and time to consider better approaches for tackling work challenges and systemic pressures.\n\nThis programme has been jointly developed by the University of Westminster Centre for Resilience and Hazel Hill Trust following four very successful pilot programmes with junior hospital doctors\, psychiatrists and GPs. The Westminster Centre for Resilience has over 20 years’ experience of helping medical professionals. Hazel Hill Trust is an educational charity and leader in nature-based resilience.

SUMMARY:Men's Health: Sex and the Heart
DESCRIPTION:Men's Health: Sex and the Heart - 7 December\, 2021 - 12.30pm to 1.30pm \nSex and the heart \nThe lecture will focus on (1) evaluation and management of cardiovascular risk in men with ED and no known CVD and (2) cardiac risk associated with sexual activity in men with known CVD. \nSeveral prospective studies have investigated the CV response to sexual activity including intercourse\, and found that it is similar to mild to moderate daily non sexual effort. Several of these studies have been performed using ambulatory electrocardiography and blood pressure monitoring comparing heart rate\, electrocardiographic and blood pressure responses during sexual activity and other normal daily activities. \nCasual sex may involve a greater cardiac workload because of lack of familiarity and age mismatch. Using our knowledge of METs\, we can advise patients on sexual activity using a simple comparison with other activities such as walking 1 mile (1.6 km) on the level in 20 minutes

SUMMARY:Men's Health: Testosterone Deficiency
DESCRIPTION:Men's Health:Testosterone Deficiency- 17th November 2021 - 12.30pm to 1.30pm \nTestosterone deficiency (TD) \nThe consensus is that: \n1)      TD is a well–established\, significant medical condition that negatively affects male sexuality\, reproduction\, general health\, and quality of life; \n2) Symptoms and signs of TD occur as a result of low levels of testosterone\, and may benefit from treatment regardless of whether there is an identified underlying etiology; \n3) TD is a global public health concern; \n4) T therapy for men with TD is effective\, rational\, and evidence-based; \n5) There is no T concentration threshold that reliably distinguishes those who will respond to treatment from those who will not; \n6) There is no scientific basis for any age-specific recommendations against the use of T therapy in adult men; \n7) The evidence does not support increased risks of cardiovascular events with T therapy; \n8) The evidence does not support increased risk of prostate cancer with T therapy; \n9) The evidence supports a major research initiative to explore possible benefits of T therapy for cardiometabolic disease\, including diabetes. \n

SUMMARY:Men's Health: Men and COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Men's Health: Men and COVID-19 - 2nd November 2021\, 12.30pm to 1.30pm \nAs COVID-19 wreaks havoc across the globe\, the UK has been particularly hard hit. In particular\, during the SARS-CoV outbreak men had a higher case fatality rate of 21.9% as compared to 13.2% for females\, and twice as many male-to-female deaths in the 0–44 year age range. \nIt is too soon for certainty as to why men are more at risk\, but our knowledge of the biological\, behavioural and socio-cultural factors involved is growing and the picture is getting clearer. This lecture will focus onto what is currently understood about the biological implications of being male on the course of the disease. \nThis course is being run as an online training course. Details of how to join the meeting will be emailed to you closer to the event.
